Taiwan’s e-bike export growth still on track

It is regarded as one of the main challenges for e-bike and bicycle assemblers today, having all components in stock in time to deliver a complete bike. Still Taiwan’s e-bike and bicycle assemblers managed to generate double digit growth volumes last year.
Already in 2020, the turbulent market resulted in unprecedented sales increases and this trend continued into 2021. According to the latest statistics, regular bicycle exports grew by 17% in volume (1.99 million units) and 19.7% in value (US$ 1.3 billion or €1.2 billion) from 2020 to 2021. The official 2021 export statistics were reported last week by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).
Double digit growth
E-bikes had an even more outstanding performance with 987,000 units (+30%) exported in 2021 worth US$ 1.3 billion (€ 1.2 billion) (+33%). There has been double digit growth for e-bike exports for the last four consecutive years.
The biggest growth on a single market was generated in the UK where exports increased by 154.58%. The second main market for e-bike exports was Germany with a 103.69% increase in volume. Exports to the US grew by 61.88% and to France by a staggering 48.28%. Taiwan’s e-bikes exports have been the biggest driving force for industry growth.
