Taiwanese textile company UKL has developed a sustainable fabric made from pineapple leaf fiber, which boasts a lower carbon footprint than cotton or linen, emitting just 0.784 CO2e per kilogram.
By reusing pineapple leaves, UKL supports local farmers while reducing waste. The company is working with farmers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung to further develop eco-friendly products for international markets.
The innovation was showcased at the 2024 Circular Economy Innovation Exhibition in Taipei, where other companies also presented sustainable products made from recycled materials.
