Taiwan Industrial Output Rises on AI Demand

Taiwan’s industrial production index rose 14.16% year-on-year to 125.63 in April, supported by strong demand for AI infrastructure, servers, and advanced semiconductors, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The manufacturing production index, which accounts for the majority of industrial output, increased 15.13%, marking its 26th consecutive month of growth. Computer-related products—including servers, switches, semiconductor inspection equipment, and optoelectronics—led gains with an 85.4% increase, while electronic component output rose 11.47%, driven by demand for advanced wafers and memory chips.

Traditional industries also showed signs of improvement. Machinery equipment production grew 9.69%, while base metal output increased 2.08% on stronger restocking demand. However, chemical materials output declined 10.01%, and auto parts production fell 2.93% amid weaker overseas demand and inventory adjustments.

For the first four months of the year, industrial production rose 21.13% and manufacturing output increased 22.71%. The ministry said it remains optimistic about the outlook, citing continued growth in high-performance computing and AI-related products.
