ASE Doubles Chip Capacity with New Malaysia Plant

ASE, a unit of Taiwan’s ASE Technology, has opened its fifth plant in Penang to double capacity for AI and automotive chip packaging and testing.

The facility will triple its production space and will expand staffing to over 6,000. CEO Tien Wu said the move strengthens ASE’s global presence and supports Taiwan’s rising role in the chip industry.

ASE also plans further expansion in Asia and is investing US$200 million in a new FOPLP line in Kaohsiung. Trial runs are set for Q3 2025.
