AUO Acquires BHTC for €600M to Boost Automotive Electronics

Taiwan’s AUO Corp. is acquiring German automotive electronics firm Behr-Hella Thermocontrol GmbH (BHTC) for €600 million, marking AUO’s strategic shift from a panel maker to a technology solutions provider.

The deal, expected to close by mid-2024, bolsters AUO’s smart mobility and automotive electronics capabilities.

BHTC specializes in Human Machine Interfaces, Climate Control, and Electronic Control Units. Despite consuming about 20% of AUO’s cash reserves, the acquisition is poised to enhance the company’s global position in the burgeoning field of automotive electronics.
