Industrial production grew 12.25% year-on-year in Q3, driven by strong demand for AI chips, servers, and iPhone camera lenses, the Ministry of Economic Affairs reported. Manufacturing, the key sector, rose 13%, aligning with the ministry’s double-digit growth forecast.
AI servers, particularly those powered by Nvidia’s GB200 chips, are expected to boost production in Q4. Hon Hai Precision Industry plans to ship its first AI servers using GB200 chips in December.
In September, electronic components saw record growth of 19.03%, with semiconductors up 23.77%, while computer and optoelectronics production surged 32.41%. However, traditional industries faced challenges, with steel production down 0.39%, chemicals falling 2.34%, and auto parts dropping 15.28%.
The ministry predicts manufacturing growth of 7.4% to 11.8% in October, reflecting uneven recovery across sectors.
