New Taipei launches the nation’s first AI traffic system

New Taipei City has launched Taiwan’s first artificial intelligence system for reviewing traffic impact and maintenance plans, cutting review times from more than two weeks to about half a day.

The city’s Transport Department said the system screens written reports, quickly flags potential issues, and helps staff manage more than 300 cases annually. Senior specialist Lin Chao-hsien said the tool reduces administrative workload and allows personnel to focus on on-site traffic risks.

Transport Department Commissioner Chung Ming-shih said the system is part of the city’s broader smart transport strategy, with additional AI tools planned for inspections, customer service, and traffic control centers. The department said the system will continue to improve as more data is accumulated, according to Commercial Times.
