According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan’s semiconductor equipment production is expected to rise this year, driven by strong demand for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) technologies. It follows a 5.5 percent increase in output for the first five months, reaching NT$62.7 billion (US$1.93 billion).
The ministry forecasts that total production in 2023 will surpass last year’s NT$149.7 billion, continuing a five-year trend of exceeding NT$100 billion. The growth comes as companies boost digital transformation and automation post-pandemic, fueling the need for advanced semiconductor processes.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) also increased its capital expenditure budget, further driving the sector’s momentum. Semiconductor equipment exports rose by 8.2 percent in the first half of this year, with China and Singapore being key markets.
