Taiwan Expands EV Charging Infrastructure

Eight localities across Taiwan have received subsidies from a NT$500 million (US$15.35 million) government fund to construct public EV chargers.

Chang Shun-chin of the Environment Ministry stated that power supply improvements have been made to 400 sites, and 1,000 new sites have been added. Tainan and Taoyuan received most of the funding, with additional stations built in New Taipei, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Taitung, and Kinmen.

In 2018, Taiwan set a goal to ban fossil fuel vehicle sales by 2040. The government aims to build 7,800 charging piles by 2025 and revised building codes in 2019 to support EV infrastructure.
