Forerunner 1, replacing the retired Taiwania 1, is now operational at Taiwan’s National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC) in Tainan. Built by NCHC, Forerunner 1 boasts 62,496 computing cores, 3.5 petaflops peak performance, and 9.2 PB storage.
Designed for tasks like climate prediction, astrophysics, and molecular modeling, Forerunner 1 enhances computing performance and energy efficiency. NCHC plans to expand its infrastructure, aiming for 16 petaflops of GPU computing power by year-end and between 200-300 petaflops by 2028 to stay competitive in high-performance computing and AI.
