Taiwan’s MICE Industry: Reopening to the World with a Sustainable Outlook

Taiwan is reopening to the world with no more mandatory quarantine required. The country has always been a hub for information and transfer in Asia and is home to several global-leading professional trade shows in various industries.

With the easing of border measures and the adoption of a 7-day self-initiated prevention policy, Taiwan’s MICE industry is entering a new chapter.

The MEET TAIWAN program organized an “Open Arms” press conference that saw the attendance of VIPs from international associations, venue operators, and companies, both in person and online.

Despite challenges faced by the MICE industry, Taiwan’s creativity and resilience, combined with robust software and hardware capabilities, have made it come back stronger than ever. In 2023, more than 500 business events will be held in Taiwan, generating an anticipated total value of US$2bn for the Taiwan MICE industry.

TAITRA, together with the Bureau of Foreign Trade, UFI, and KPMG Taiwan, has proposed the Taiwan MICE Sustainability White Paper, a framework for sustainable MICE operation that covers major sustainability trends such as UN SDGs and ESG. The hope is that the White Paper will become a sustainable model for the international MICE industry.
