UMC Becomes First Semiconductor Foundry in Global Lighthouse Network

United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) made history as the first semiconductor foundry to join the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Lighthouse Network. Its Fab 12A in Tainan, the company’s largest production and R&D site, earned the prestigious recognition for pioneering smart manufacturing.

Since 2017, UMC has integrated over 48 Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) solutions, boosting product yields to 97%, reducing design kit delivery time by 57%, and improving workforce efficiency by 47%. The WEF highlighted UMC’s AI defect analysis system as a key innovation driving operational excellence.

The Global Lighthouse Network, co-founded by WEF and McKinsey & Company, recognizes industry leaders in digital transformation, sustainability, and efficiency. UMC joins other Taiwan-based lighthouses, including Micron, ASE Technology, and Foxconn subsidiary Ingrasys.
