Taiwan’s Trustworthy AI Dialogue Engine (TAIDE), a traditional Chinese generative AI system, has been upgraded using Meta’s Llama 3 model and is set to benefit various sectors, according to Jane Yung-jen Hsu of the Taiwan AI Center of Excellence (Taiwan AICoE).
Initiated by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), TAIDE aims to develop Taiwan’s large language model. The upgraded TAIDE-LX-8B, released shortly after Llama 3’s debut, outperforms its predecessor in processing traditional Chinese data.
Hsu, also a professor at Chang Gung University, noted that TAIDE excels in translation, summarizing, essay writing, and letter-writing tasks, providing a better Taiwanese context than ChatGPT. TAIDE aims to solve practical problems and offer secure models for local enterprises and financial institutions. The model has been trained on government and academic documents, with plans to collaborate with private businesses for wider use.
