Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASE) has opened its fifth plant in Penang, aiming to double its IC packaging and testing capacity for AI and automotive electronics.
The new facility expands ASE’s production area to 315,870 square meters and will grow its workforce to over 6,000. CEO Tien Wu highlighted Malaysia’s role as a key semiconductor hub, with the expansion strengthening the global supply chain.
ASE’s Penang operations will focus on image sensors, robotics, and automotive electronics. The company is also expanding in Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines.
Additionally, ASE is investing $200 million in a Kaohsiung production line for fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP), with trial runs set for later this year.
