Taiwan Rises to 16th in Global AI Index

Taiwan climbed five places to rank 16th worldwide in the latest Global AI Index, outperforming most Nordic countries and India, according to the Observer’s annual assessment cited by Liberty Times.

The index evaluated 93 countries using 108 indicators across three pillars—implementation, innovation, and investment—covering areas such as talent, infrastructure, research and development, and government strategy. The top 10 were led by the United States and China, followed by Singapore, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. Taiwan placed 16th among countries ranked 11th to 20th.

The Observer said several Asian economies recorded rapid gains, with Taiwan highlighted alongside South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. Taiwan scored strongly in infrastructure, government strategy, and operating environment but lagged in talent, commercial ecosystem, and development capacity.

Industrial Development Administration Director-General Chiou Chyou-huey attributed Taiwan’s progress to government policy support and strengths in semiconductors and the server supply chain, while noting that talent shortages and limited AI commercialization remain key constraints.
