Taiwan Workshop Turns Plastic Waste into Trendy Sunglasses

A Taipei-based workshop by Miniwiz transforms plastic waste into trendy sunglasses, offering a hands-on approach to recycling and sustainable fashion. The zero-waste facility encourages participants to bring their plastic waste, converted into sunglasses within two hours using the company’s innovative ‘miniTrashpresso’ machine.

Arthur Huang, the founder of Miniwiz, highlighted the significance of witnessing the recycling process in real time. “At our Trash Kitchen, people can see how quickly and cleanly waste is turned into valuable products,” he told Reuters.

The workshop has garnered praise from fashion insiders, including Harper’s Bazaar Taiwan editor-in-chief Kora Hsieh, who called the project a “fantastic way to promote sustainable fashion.” Participants, like local business owner Debbie Wu, say the experience has motivated them to rethink their plastic use.

With Taiwan generating 11.58 million metric tons of waste in 2023, initiatives like Miniwiz’s are seen as crucial for raising awareness and addressing the island’s growing waste problem.
