According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan’s industrial production jumped 22.3% year-on-year in May, driven by strong demand for high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
The manufacturing production index rose 23.7%, marking its 14th straight month of growth. From January to April, industrial and manufacturing output grew 14.3% and 15.2%, respectively.
Semiconductor output surged 44.4%, fueled by demand for 12-inch wafers and chip packaging. Electronic component production rose 36.5%, while machinery and base metal production posted modest gains. However, flat panel output fell 4.1%, and auto production dropped 2.2% amid component shortages.
Growth is expected to continue, though front-loaded demand ahead of U.S. tariff reviews may taper, officials said.
