AI Growth Expands Beyond Models to Infrastructure and Devices

The global AI industry is entering a new phase in which growth is increasingly driven by infrastructure, devices, and real-world applications, according to the Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute.

Speaking at the COMPUTEX Best Choice Award ceremony, MIC Director General Chris Hung said AI development is moving beyond model creation toward the broader ecosystem required for deployment. AI applications are expanding from cloud environments into edge computing, end devices, and industrial settings, while demand for servers, networking, cooling systems, and power infrastructure continues to grow.

Hung said AI is becoming a new generation of national infrastructure, supported by advances across energy, semiconductors, computing platforms, and applications. According to MIC projections, global AI server shipments are expected to continue rising through 2030, while AI-related chips could account for nearly half of the semiconductor market by 2028.

The institute also expects AI PCs to enter a rapid adoption phase in 2026 as AI capabilities become increasingly integrated into consumer and enterprise devices, accelerating adoption across sectors including healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, and office applications.
