Taiwan Farm Machinery Expo Marks 20th Year with Electric Tractor Debut

The 20th Taiwan International Agricultural Machinery and Materials Exhibition opened in Chiayi, bringing together 250 companies and 700 booths to showcase the latest advances in smart agriculture and low-carbon farming equipment.

Highlights included large-scale agricultural machinery, smart farming technologies, drones, and the debut of the Monarch Electric Tractor, a self-driving electric tractor assembled by a U.S. subsidiary of Foxconn. The vehicle incorporates self-driving chips from Nvidia and battery technology from Tesla.

Officials said the exhibition supports Taiwan’s net-zero goals by encouraging farmers to adopt cleaner, more efficient equipment. The government has increased subsidies for electric farm machinery and invested more than US$250 million in farm equipment support programs since 2019.

Organizers said the event also highlights the role of smart agriculture in addressing labour shortages and improving productivity as Taiwan’s farming workforce continues to age.
