MOEA Eyes Overseas Green Power Sources for Taiwan

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is exploring building green power plants in neighboring countries, such as the Philippines and Japan, to address Taiwan’s growing demand for clean energy, Economic Affairs Minister Kuo Jyh-huei announced.

Given Taiwan’s limited space for new power plants, the MOEA sees overseas green energy projects as a feasible solution to help local companies meet 2030 carbon reduction goals.

The ministry, with support from AIT Director Raymond Greene, is considering options to transfer energy back to Taiwan via undersea cables or cargo vessels.

MOEA may partner with private companies, rather than relying on Taiwan Power Co., to develop solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources, thereby enhancing Taiwanese companies’ competitiveness and global presence.
